The Mudslingers Club was started in about 1962 or 1963 by a group of friends that mostly rode the trails of the Northwest. A man named Don Henning founded the club. In 1965 they held their first race, which was a Cross Country or Hare Scrambles type event. The Mudslingers also held poker runs in the Deep Creek area.

Herb Anderson became a club member in about 1967 or 1968 to mostly ride trails. The  Cascade Trail group, which he was a member, was not allowed to ride on the Cascade Crest trail any longer since the trails had been closed to motorized vehicles. Herb also raced in Scrambles events on his trusty Husqvarna.

Herb bought the land that Mudslingers is on in 1966 as a place for his sons Vic and Earl to ride and practice on. In 1975 Herb offered the Mudslingers club the chance to hold Rough Scrambles Events on his Jare Rd property. The Mudslingers have now held events there for 32 years.

The last five years have seen a change in the club. At one time the Mudslingers Club was basically a men’s club and if we were lucky we had 10 to 15 members show up for the meetings and events. Attendance at our races used to be between 175 to 300 riders.

In recent years we have become a more family oriented Club and have 30-35 members at meeting and events. We now have Dad, Mom and kids helping at the track and turnouts of 325-525 riders, even in the snow and down pouring rain conditions. The opening of 2006-2007 drew in 476 riders.

If you see Herb riding around in his powered wheel chair, stop him and say thank you.  It’s his love of the sport that’s kept the Mudslingers events going at his house for 32 years.
